1. Our Commitment
We aim to make our digital content usable by people with disabilities, including those who use assistive technologies such as screen readers, keyboard navigation, or magnification tools.
2. Accessible Canada Act (ACA)
The Accessible Canada Act mandates that federally regulated organizations provide digital content that is barrier-free for people with disabilities. AHANSA is primarily an Ontario private-sector professional services practice (not a federally regulated entity in the ordinary course). Nonetheless, we support the ACA’s goal of barrier-free digital content and apply those principles to this website where reasonably practicable.
3. Provincial Accessibility — Ontario (AODA)
Under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and related standards, public and private organizations in Ontario must meet accessibility requirements that apply to their size and sector. AHANSA works toward AODA-aligned practices for customer service and information and communications, including:
- Respectful, accessible service in person, by phone, and virtually
- Willingness to provide information in accessible formats upon request where feasible
- Training and awareness for personnel who interact with the public, as applicable
4. WCAG 2.1 / 2.2 Level AA
Provinces such as British Columbia and Manitoba reference or enforce compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 or 2.2 Level AA for certain public web applications and essential services. As a best practice for essential professional-service information online, AHANSA aims for WCAG 2.1/2.2 Level AA conformance for this website, including:
- Semantic headings and structure
- Keyboard-accessible navigation and interactive controls
- Sufficient colour contrast where design allows (black/gold/white palette)
- Text alternatives for meaningful images
- Visible focus states and clear form labels
- Mobile-responsive layout
We continuously improve; some third-party embeds (e.g., maps) may have limitations outside our full control.
5. Measures We Take
- Use of HTML landmarks (header, nav, main, footer) and ARIA labels where helpful
- Skip-friendly structure and descriptive link text
- Forms with labels and required-field indicators
- Mobile hamburger menu with accessible open/close controls
- Respect for
prefers-reduced-motionwhere implemented
6. Known Limitations
We are working to identify and remediate barriers. Known potential limitations may include third-party map iframes, PDF documents (if added later), or media without captions. Report any barrier using the contact details above.
7. Service Accommodations
For mediation and legal support services, we can discuss reasonable accommodations such as interpretation/translation, virtual attendance, flexible scheduling, or alternate document formats. Please request accommodations when booking.
